Mixing

What does mixing mean?

In mixing, the volume levels and tones of a track's individual audio channels are adjusted as separate instrument groups to achieve a desired style and high-quality result.

Why is mixing important?

Mixing is an essential part of music production, as it makes the track clear, balanced, and pleasant to listen to. A good mix ensures that all the elements of the song complement each other and that the track is ready for mastering.

What does mixing involve?

  • Combining audio tracks: Mixing is the process of combining separate audio tracks (such as vocals, drums, guitars, and other instruments) into a single stereo mix.
  • Balancing: The mixer adjusts the volume of each audio track so that all elements sound balanced. For example, vocals might need to be clearly audible without overpowering other instruments.
  • Equalization (EQ): Equalization adjusts the frequencies of the audio tracks so that different sounds don't interfere with each other and remain balanced.
  • Dynamic control: Compressors and other dynamic tools help manage volume fluctuations, keeping the sound consistent and pleasant to listen to.
  • Panning: Panning determines where each audio track is placed in the stereo field (left, right, or center), adding depth and spatial awareness to the track.
  • Effects: Effects such as reverb, delay, and chorus are used when necessary to add texture and atmosphere to the track.

Delivery Format for Audio Tracks

Audio tracks should be delivered in the following formats: WAV file format, 16-, 24-, or 32-bit depth, and a resolution of 44,100 Hz or 48,000 Hz (higher resolutions are also acceptable). We can also mix MP3 format tracks if higher quality files are not available. Audio tracks may include mixing, but if you are unsure about compatibility with effects like reverb or delay, we recommend sending tracks without these processes.
